Beam Backgrounds at CLEO : Design andPerformance of the
نویسنده
چکیده
2 Abstract In November 1995, the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) began Phase II operations. The CESR/CLEO Phase II upgrade involved the installation of a silicon vertex detector for the CLEO experiment and an interaction region optimized for a small-radius beampipe and bunch-train collisions at total beam currents of 600 mA. The design of the CESR Phase II Interaction Region is described and the operational experience of the IR is summarized. Measurements of beam-generated detector backgrounds are compared with predictions from detector background simulations.

متن کاملICFA Instrumentation Bulletin BEAM TESTS OF THE CLEO III LIF-TEA RING IMAGING CHERENKOV DETECTOR
We present preliminary results from a test beam run of CLEO III RICH modules. The system consists of LiF radiators and multiwire proportional chambers containing a mixture of CH4 and TEA gases. The radiators were both at and \sawtooth." The data were taken in a beam dump at Fermilab. We will discuss the chamber stability, electronics, the number of photons observed for both radiators, the angul...
متن کاملThe Superconducting Interaction Region Magnet Positioning System for the CESR Phase III Upgrade
Due to the extraordinary sensitivity of beams to misalignments of the superconducting high gradient interaction region magnets for the Phase III upgrade, a beam-based alignment and active positioning scheme has been designed and is being constructed. Using cams and kinematic mounting, the magnetic centers of the four quadrupole magnets will be independently positioned over a radial range of 1 m...

The design of the interaction region for an e ? e ? collider will involve an understanding of beam-beam eeects, detector backgrounds, and the constraints required to maintain very small beam spot sizes. This paper reviews progress in the design of the e + e ? interaction region of the proposed SLAC X-band NLC as a base design for the e ? e ? detector.

The CLEO-III Detector upgrade for charged particle identification is discussed. The RICH design uses solid LiF crystal radiators coupled with multi-wire chamber photon detectors, using TEA as the photosensor, and low-noise Viking readout electronics.
